Die Hochleister // Hochleistungs-Management // Nicolas Limbach

Nicolas Limbach is one of the successful athletes that are promoted by PlusServer. He was born on December 29, 1985 in Eupen, Germany and fights for the club TSV Bayer Dormagen. In spite of his young age he was already able to win several competitions in his sport sabre fencing.

Due to his great successes in 2008 he was able to qualify for the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing. Before the games started the young sabre fencer even managed to reach position number one in world ranking.

In Beijing he had a very felicitous tournament start and was considered medal aspirant before he finally lost against the Belorus Aliaksandr Buikevich, who posed a special challenge being left-handed. Because he lacked adequate training partners, Nico could not prepare well enough for the fight against a sinistral beforehand.

Nevertheless, Nico could get the upper hand again and again during the fight against the incumbent European master Buikevich, finally being edged out with 14:15 when a double hit was counted in favour of his opponent. This decision, however, could only be made by the arbitrator after viewing the video recording and consultation with his colleagues.

Besides Nico all other top favourites dropped out of the tournament quite early and finally the Chinese Zhong Man was the winner, who had been considered an underdog before.

Anyway, Nico gained many new experiences from his participation and wants to have another go at the Olympic Games in 2012. Until then he will probably be able to win further national and international titles and defend his place in the world rankings.
